When I built my latest Champ inspired guitar amp, I decided to do it the "right way" and prototype it first. Usually when I design something, I spend a lot of time getting the schematic right and then just build it. If anything needs to be changed, I end up having to resolder or worse, sometimes even retrofitting parts onto a chassis not priginally designed for it.
This mostrosity was a really fun way to get an idea of what the finished amp will sound like. It was nice to be able to cliplead various part values in and out to voice the circuit. I used Octal relay sockets for the tubes, which are super handy because of the screw terminals. Too bad they don't make these for 9-pin tubes. The only drawback with a prototype like this is that it is going to be insanely noisy no matter what you do. The spaghetti-style wiring soaks up just about any interference it can find.
