Boozhound Laboratories

Photoshop Tennis  Purpose Dropping mad dezign skillz.
Design I should hope so.

Boozhound Laboratories needs a logo. This site is really quite sterile, both out of necessity as I am not really interested in maintaining a bunch of fancy crap, but also out of aesthetic choice. Though a devout minimalist, I am not anti-logo by any means - the simple truth is that I am not much of a photoshopper. Invoking the programmer's virtue of "sloth", I issued a chalenge to the kewlkidz to come up with something funky. They have shown that they are truly up to the challenge.

round 0

The seed image. Scavenged from the beautiful "system photos" section of speakerplans.com.

round 1

d5d starts things off with a beautifully devo-esque (devolved?) rendering of the original image, while meeting the "logo" criteria with the inclusion of the boozhoundlabs text. The image has been widened and made less tall to play a "banner" role on the site. He also guarantees that he will be re-hired in a year by including the ironically futuristic "//2002".

round 2

Paul Spitzer counters with a bit of subtle coloring and restoring of detail. The seipa tones of the original image are enhanced by the reddish hue chosen for the speaker stack. Is the choice of red a chromatic dis to d5d's choice of blue? Notice the subtlety of the grey-blue background color that sets the image off from the white page, and the addition of the man's shadow to provide a bit more 3 dimensionality. nice.

round 3

d5d rocks the house with a flatulent brown future-explosion-cloud! Vertical lines are added to transform the grid backdrop into a background and a floor.

round 4

Kris Russell throws another ball onto the court with a Basquiat inspired neon brushtool melee!

round 5

I think Paul Spitzer said it best himself when submitting this latest volley. Whahblam! He even used an image of the MCM 55-1870 and a bit of text from the s8 page on this very site. And wait - what's that texture in the background - why its a faint bit of Kris Russell's entry! I continue to be amazed.

round 6

OK. It is now clear to me that trying to commentate this match is really just silly. You know these guys are good. I know these guys are good. Why continue to state the obvious? d5d incorporates more elemnts from the site and even an all-your-base-ism. Feel free to openly weep.

round 7

Nathan Hurst busts out another spin on things with a B+W graffiti still life type thing.

round 8

Paul Spitzer throws a phonograph and an eyeball into the mix.

round 9

OMG. d5d carrys out his threat to "get retro".

round 10

Things are getting back to basics here in the 10th round.
